[edit] Star Vipers
So just what does it mean to be a Star Viper? It means that you are serving amongst the finest in the Imperial Navy. It means that you are living out a part of Star Wars lore, serving on the same side that such heroes as Darth Vader, the Emperor Palpatine, and Grand Admiral Thrawn once served on. Where your every move determines the fate of the galaxy, and adventure is around every turn. Weekly meetings are held, and a newsletter is sent out once a month to keep you informed of fleet activities. Not only that, but virtually every Star Wars game that LucasArts has created is supported by the Star Vipers, as well as the online game StarSphere and our own Hyperball League. We even have sections for people who don't own any computer games supported by the Star Vipers. And if you don't want to be a pilot, or a Stormtrooper, a Dark Jedi, or a smuggler, then we have room for you. Diplomats, Technicians, and Artists are always welcome. You earn rank and respect like a true officer, always striving to be better. The Empire is truly alive once again, and leading the way are the Star Vipers. The true question is why haven't you joined the Star Vipers yet?
The Star Vipers online gaming organization can trace its initial founding back to late 1996 in the form of the Dark Knights Strike Fleet, a group founded by one (Dagron Berkana). Several months after this date both the Hand of Thrawn (Shock4) and Star Vipers (Aval) were also founded, with the latter two merging to form one club under the banner of the Star Vipers. By the turn of the millenium the Dark Knights Strike Fleet had long been defunct with the Crimson Strike Fleet (neigh Imperium) takings its place, and it was this Crimson club that merged with the Star Vipers that year to form the club that you now see. If you would like a more detailed explanation please visit Star Vipers - The Legacy Explained.
So how exactly do the Star Vipers work? Well to put it simply the club are run by the Star Vipers Command Staff; a group of faction leaders who are appointed by the Fleet Commander & Executive Officer to oversee the running of the clubs factions (rather self explanitory!). Membership on this group is not granted by right of seniority, but rather ability, that being any member who has shown themselves to have the ability to lead a division with dedication and fairness.
The club itself is made up of several factions (at the time of writing these include Clan Caitan, Enki and the Fleet) all of which support a range of games such as Battlefronts, Jedi Academy, Jedi Oucast, TIE Fighter & X-Wing Alliance. Each faction has its strengths and weakness and each has its own innate character and history. Membership in any one faction grants membership of the Star Vipers, however you may only be a member of one faction at a time.
